Representing the Virginia state flower, Spring Dogwood was woven together using over 6000 individual pieces of glass. There are 18 different panels and the negative space between the panels make up the branch of the tree. The 3000 pieces of glass used to weave the background’s forest of leaves, includes 70-80 different colors of green. The background shades of green are darker at the bottom and lighten as the eye moves up. There are some hints of blue “sky” closer to the top. There are 83 individual white dogwood flowers in various sizes and no two are exactly alike. Over 1000 pieces of white glass make up the 332 petals. All with various subtle shades of white, silver, grey, purple & pink. We made over 40 different shades of white to weave into the flowers to make each one a unique sculpture on its own. There are over 2400 tiny pieces of white threads and glass beads to complete the petal details and yellow centers of the flowers and each is finished with the signature “burn” mark at the end of every petal. Spring Dogwood took 6 months to complete and is the first large sculpture to come out of our new studios in Bowie, Maryland
