Summer Zenith Kimono
On Permanent Exhibition:
Lowe Art Museum 1301 Stanford Drive, Coral Gables, Florida
5.5 ft. tall with arm span of 4 ft.
Summer Zenith Kimono is the final in a series of four freestanding life-size kimonos representing the four seasons. Summer Zenith means “high noon” when the sun is at the Zenith of the day. The front of the kimono features crisp blue skies and white clouds with bright gold and yellow rays beaming from a saffron variegated sun. The summer landscape merges with cool waves of a seashore and descend into an abstract deep blue & red undersea coral reef. The back features Mt. Fuji peaking at the left shoulder. Both sides of the mountain can be followed down onto each hanging sleeve. Real Gold and Silver Leaf Foil were fired on the surface of the peak just under the white snowcap. There are various waterfalls on both sides of the mountain flowing into wetlands and then circular water eddies which extend into the underwater coral to meet the front.
